Recall: Audi Recalls 9,048 Q4 e-tron SUVs Over a Battery Fire Risk; Owners Told to Cap Charging at 80 Percent

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · Society · GSM News

Volkswagen Group of America filed a safety recall report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on October 21, recalling 9,048 model year 2024-2025 Audi Q4 e-tron electric SUVs under campaign 26V698 (Audi recall 93SK): 7,040 Q4 e-tron vehicles built from December 4, 2023 to April 24, 2025, and 2,008 Q4 Sportback e-tron vehicles built from November 30, 2023 to April 22, 2025.

The defect lies in the high-voltage battery: some batteries, supplied by SK Battery Manufacturing of Komárom, Hungary, may not meet required production quality standards, and a state of charge above 80 percent may trigger thermal propagation inside the battery, which can result in a vehicle fire. The root cause remains under investigation, with current findings pointing to potential manufacturing deviations; Audi estimates only about 0.1 percent of the recalled vehicles actually carry the defect.

The recall is preventive: Audi acted after learning on September 21 of thermal events in other Volkswagen Group vehicles using the same battery type. As of the filing, Audi was not aware of any claims, crashes, fires, injuries or deaths related to the condition. The affected vehicle identification numbers (VINs) became searchable on NHTSA's website on October 23.

A remedy is still under development. Until it is ready, owners are advised to charge their vehicles to no more than 80 percent of capacity. Interim owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on December 18, with further letters once the remedy is available; owners can call Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.
