Redfin Launches 'Iconic Homes of America': Betsy Ross House and Galveston's Bishop's Palace Debut First, Marking America's 250th Anniversary

Real estate brokerage Redfin announced in Seattle on October 30 that it is launching 'Redfin Presents Iconic Homes of America,' a new creative franchise celebrating America's 250th anniversary by spotlighting the stories of influential homes and the people who shaped the nation. Redfin is now part of Rocket Companies (NYSE: RKT).
Each featured property gets a dedicated listing-style page on Redfin alongside the millions of homes for sale or rent on the site, with immersive tours, detailed photography and stories of the people who lived within its walls. Each property will also host a free in-person event, complemented by virtual experiences for people nationwide.
The franchise kicks off with two properties: the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia, a landmark associated with the creation of the American flag and a pioneering craftswoman and entrepreneur, where the first free public event will be held on November 7 with registration through Redfin; and the 1892 Bishop's Palace in Galveston, Texas.
Built around 1740, the Betsy Ross House reflects the determination of a working woman during America's founding: records show Ross was an accomplished tradeswoman who made flags for the government for decades. When the home faced demolition in the late 19th century, Americans across the country helped preserve it through 10-cent memberships. Its Redfin page looks beyond the legend to Ross as a business owner, working mother and survivor who built her life within two small, rented rooms.
Bishop's Palace was built between 1887 and 1892, designed by Nicholas J. Clayton, Galveston's most influential architect, for lawyer and congressman Walter Gresham, his wife Josephine and their seven children. The home spans 52 rooms and 19,086 square feet, and became the residence of Bishop Byrne after the Catholic Church purchased it in 1923. Its details include hand-carved woodwork, a dining room ceiling mural painted by Josephine herself, and an octagonal mahogany rotunda staircase beneath French stained glass.
"America's story isn't just written in history books. It's written in the homes where people have dreamed, created, persevered and changed the course of our nation," said Jonathan Mildenhall, Chief Marketing Officer of Rocket. Redfin said each property will debut separately and remain on Redfin through the end of 2027, and the public can nominate homes with stories worth telling for inclusion.
