Boston Waterfront Towers Cut Ribbon on $20 Million Deployable Flood Barriers

Boston is a city in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu joined residents of Harbor Towers this week to cut the ribbon on the downtown waterfront property's $20 million flood-resilience project. The work installs deployable flood barriers that can be put in place ahead of storms to protect the 54-year-old high-rise's below-grade and critical infrastructure. The ceremony was part of Deployables Day, Boston's citywide showcase of public and private deployable flood protection.
Two major 2018 storms that brought floodwater within inches of the building pushed residents to act. City officials said four of Boston's largest public spaces and 11 private properties now have deployables in place, and the city will keep moving coastal resilience projects from plans into construction as sea levels rise and extreme weather intensifies.
