Boston is a city in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Massachusetts media reported on October 14 that the 43rd annual Trooper George L. Hanna Memorial Awards ceremony was held in Boston that day, honoring 18 officers from five departments for bravery. Honorees included Fall River officers who evacuated more than 50 residents from an assisted-living facility fire and an Everett detective who rescued a driver during an armed confrontation.

Governor Maura Healey announced at the ceremony a new Line-of-Duty Commonwealth Flag Policy to honor public safety personnel and National Guard members who die in the line of duty. The 2026 Medal of Honor recipients are Aurise Miedico of Burlington, José R. Valenzuela and Gerard Colpoys of Boston, and Steven Negron of Holyoke.

The awards are named for Trooper George Hanna, killed in the line of duty in 1983. Healey said the honorees' actions represent the best of public service and thanked their families for their sacrifices.
