Firehouse 16 Marks 60 Years of Service in South Charlotte
Charlotte is a city in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Firehouse 16 on Park South Drive marked 60 years of service on October 1. Opened in 1966 as Charlotte pushed south, the station now covers a built-up area around SouthPark that is home to roughly 37,000 people, along with schools, hotels, churches and businesses.
A restored 1971 Seagrave engine that served at the station decades ago returned for the anniversary. Charlotte Fire says the trucks and the neighborhood have changed over six decades, but the station's close, everyday ties with nearby residents remain a defining part of its story.
