Michigan Avenue to Get 1.5-Mile Northbound Dedicated Bus Lane

Chicago is a city in Cook County, Illinois. Chicago officials have announced a dedicated northbound bus lane on Michigan Avenue between Roosevelt Road and Wacker Drive, a 1.5-mile stretch through the Loop described as one of the city's busiest bus corridors. Mayor Brandon Johnson said the lane is intended to cut delays and improve reliability for thousands of daily riders. According to the city's release, about 1,490 buses on 21 routes use the corridor each day, carrying roughly 22,000 weekday passengers. Installation, including red pavement markings and signage, will be done at night. The corridor falls within the Smart Streets enforcement area, where cameras on buses and city vehicles ticket motorists who park or stand in bus lanes. CDOT and the CTA plan to evaluate travel times, reliability, and safety over the first six months.
