Judge Halts Chicago South Side Feed Plant Operations in City and State Odor Lawsuit; Next Hearing January 14

Chicago is a city in Cook County, Illinois. Chicago media reported on October 14 that Judge Thomas Donnelly granted a temporary restraining order sought by the Illinois Attorney General's Office and the City of Chicago, halting operations at the Pullman Innovations animal-feed additive plant on the South Side. The city and state sued in August, alleging violations of state and city air pollution laws after years of odor complaints from nearby residents.
Attorney General Kwame Raoul said in a statement on October 14 that the plant should not reopen until it addresses the odors and air pollution and complies with Illinois environmental laws. The order keeps the plant closed at least until a preliminary injunction hearing scheduled for January 14, 2027.
Complaints about odors at the site stretch back decades, including under a predecessor company previously sued by the state. The Chicago Department of Public Health has ticketed the plant multiple times, and Illinois EPA investigators have confirmed odors inside the plant and in surrounding neighborhoods. A lawyer for the plant's parent company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
