Dallas Police Solve Decades-Old Murder Case Through DNA Match

Saturday, October 3, 2026 · City · GSM News

Dallas is a city in Dallas County, Texas. Dallas police say a murder case that went unsolved for decades has been cracked with the help of DNA evidence. Tommie Davis, 55, was killed in 1993 near Haskell Avenue, and the case eventually went cold until a detective reopened the file and submitted blood evidence from the scene to a national DNA database.

The search matched 56-year-old Gary Len Ross, who had also used the name Tommy Lynn Jones. Officers arrested Ross on October 2, and he is being held at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center on a capital murder charge. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
