Pistons Sign Jalen Duren to Five-Year, $200 Million Extension Through 2031

Detroit is a city in Wayne County, Michigan. The Detroit Pistons officially signed center Jalen Duren to a five-year, $200 million extension on Saturday, October 3, ending a drama-filled offseason standoff. The deal runs through 2031 and starts with a $40.1 million salary in its first year. Duren, a restricted free agent who had skipped the team's open practice amid the impasse, had visited two teams over the summer; Sacramento explored a sign-and-trade, while the Lakers pivoted to a Walker Kessler trade. Holding out for a max deal, Duren ultimately chose the security of the long-term contract over gambling on the qualifying offer.
"We're excited to have Jalen in Detroit as a core piece of our team for years to come," Pistons President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon said in a release, adding that Duren's best basketball is still ahead of him. Duren, an important part of Detroit's success over the last two seasons, is scheduled to address reporters on Sunday, October 4.
