Hemet's One-Cent Measure Q Sales Tax Heads to Voters: Ballots Mailed This Week, Final Open House Oct. 15

Hemet is a city in Riverside County, California. Hemet's Measure Q, a one-cent local sales tax measure, is on the November 3, 2026 ballot, with vote-by-mail ballots going out the week of October 5. According to the city's published FAQ, Measure Q would generate roughly $16 million a year in local funding for 911 emergency and fire response, police patrols, street repairs, library services and drinking-water infrastructure, with all revenue staying in Hemet under independent citizen oversight and audits. Hemet's current sales tax rate is 8.75%, the measure needs a simple majority to pass, and essentials such as groceries and prescription medicine remain exempt. The city's final informational open house is set for October 15, 6-8 p.m., at the Hemet Public Library, 300 E. Latham Ave.
