Emergency Repairs Begin on Honolulu's ʻIolani Avenue, Expected to Last Five Months

Honolulu is a city in Honolulu County, Hawaii (a consolidated city-county). Honolulu's Department of Design and Construction has begun emergency structural repairs near 409 ʻIolani Avenue, where a damaged wall sits below the two-lane roadway. Work started on September 28 and is expected to take about five months, running weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding holidays. Crews will install soil nails and drainage, rebuild sidewalks and restore landscaping.
Drivers should expect periodic lane closures and possible contraflow traffic through the work zone, and are asked to allow extra travel time and follow posted signs and officers on site. The contractor will coordinate local access for residents, deliveries, trash collection and emergency vehicles throughout the project.
