Friday, October 9, 2026 · City · GSM News

Honolulu is a city in Honolulu County, Hawaii (a consolidated city-county). The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Design and Construction announced that an emergency erosion control project along Maunawili Road will begin on Monday, October 12, 2026, and take approximately four months, with work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding holidays. The project, awarded to Prometheus Construction, includes clearing vegetation and debris, installing erosion control matting, anchors and micropiles, repairing drainage infrastructure and guardrails, and applying shotcrete to stabilize the slope beneath the road. The portion of Maunawili Road between Aloha ʻOe Drive and Kelewina Street has been closed since June 2024, when a Kona Low storm damaged the area below the road, and will remain closed indefinitely even after the project, except for authorized personnel and equipment. The contractor will coordinate local access for deliveries, trash collection and emergency services. Questions: (808) 768-8400.
