Houston's I-10 HOV Lanes to Close for Up to Two Years Starting October 9

Monday, October 5, 2026 · City · GSM News

Houston is a city in Harris County, Texas. One of Houston's busiest commuter corridors is facing up to two years of disruption. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) said on October 5 that it will close the eastbound and westbound high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes linking downtown Houston with the Katy Freeway (Interstate 10), starting Friday, October 9 at 9 p.m. The eastbound HOV lane from Katy toward downtown will close at Studemont Street, with reopening estimated for fall 2027; the westbound lane toward Katy will close at Franklin Street and is not expected to reopen until summer 2028. The closures mark the next phase of the roughly $407 million I-10 White Oak Bayou project, which will demolish and rebuild the HOV connection as part of a broader flood-mitigation effort. Anyone driving between downtown Houston and the Katy corridor should plan extra time or choose an alternate route. Source: Chron, FOX 26 Houston
