Knowles-Rowland House Opens in Midtown Houston With 31 Permanent Supportive Housing Units

Houston is a city in Harris County, Texas. Houston media reported on October 14 that the Knowles-Rowland House at 2019 Crawford Street in Midtown has opened, delivering 31 permanent supportive housing units for people exiting chronic homelessness. The $13.96 million project converted a fire-damaged former gymnasium and recreation center into homes.
The project was developed by the nonprofit Bread of Life, Inc., and its sister organization Temenos Community Development Corporation will provide on-site supportive services. Residents are scheduled to begin moving in on November 1. An invitation-only ribbon cutting was held October 13 at St. John's Downtown, where Tina Knowles, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Kelly Rowland spoke.
The site was originally the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, built in 1999, and served for more than two decades as a youth summer camp, senior community center and overnight shelter. A fire in March 2021 ended that chapter, and redevelopment began in 2023.
