Corey Day Edges Kvapil in Wall-Scraping Photo Finish to Win at Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a city in Clark County, Nevada. The NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series delivered a classic finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 3, as Corey Day, driving the No. 17 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet, beat Carson Kvapil to the line in a side-by-side, wall-scraping duel to win the Focused Health 302 after 201 laps. Day won Stage 1 and Sam Mayer took Stage 2, but Mayer's crew lost control of a wheel on a Stage 3 pit stop, sending him to the rear; he recovered to sixth. Brandon Jones crashed out in Stage 2 after contact in Turn 1, also collecting Justin Allgaier.
Over the final 20 laps Day and Kvapil traded the lead repeatedly — through lapped traffic, on the high line against the wall, and door-to-door at the white flag. Day brushed the wall twice on the last lap yet held on for the win, followed by Kvapil, Jesse Love, Brent Crews and Taylor Gray. Sheldon Creed (2,259 points) retained the series points lead, with Kvapil 19 back and Love 22 back, tightening the playoff picture ahead of Sunday's Cup Series South Point 400 at the same track.
