Long Beach Opens Applications for 2027 Youth Poet Laureate Program
Long Beach is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The Long Beach Public Library, under the Department of Library, Arts, and Culture, is now accepting applications for the 2027 Youth Poet Laureate program, the city's Inside LB news site announced on Oct. 7. Run with the Arts Council for Long Beach and supported by Urban Word NYC, the program celebrates young poets engaged in their community.
Per the city's program materials, applicants submit an application, a résumé of civic engagement, a 100-word biography and five poems for review by local poets. The selected Youth Poet Laureate receives a $1,500 scholarship and each Poet Ambassador $500, serving a year of citywide literary programming.
Eligibility, deadlines and submission details are on the library's Youth Poet Laureate page at longbeach.gov, or call 562-570-7500. (GSM, excerpted from Inside LB, City of Long Beach)
