About 440 Pounds of Cocaine Seized in Alhambra Stop After K-9 Alert

Los Angeles is a city in Los Angeles County, California. Police in Alhambra, a San Gabriel Valley city with a large Chinese American population, announced on Oct. 3 that a traffic stop near Valley Boulevard and the 710 Freeway led to the discovery of roughly 200 kilograms, or about 440 pounds, of cocaine inside an SUV packed with cardboard boxes. Officers called in K-9 Otis after the driver gave inconsistent explanations for the cargo; the dog alerted to the vehicle and a search followed. The driver, identified as Julio Rangel of Huntington Park, was arrested and booked into the Alhambra city jail. Police did not disclose what prompted the initial stop.
