Miami-Dade Approves First Transit Fare Hike in 13 Years; $2.75 From 2027

Wednesday, October 7, 2026 · City · GSM News

Miami is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners voted 9–4 on Oct. 6 to raise standard Metrobus and Metrorail fares from $2.25 to $2.75 effective Jan. 1, 2027 — the county’s first transit fare increase in 13 years.

The county Department of Transportation and Public Works says the increase will generate about $9.2 million a year, preserving 13 routes slated for elimination in the FY 2026–27 budget and maintaining late-evening service on seven major corridors, including 24-hour Routes 11, 79, 77, 3 and 27, benefiting roughly 4,200 daily riders. Commissioners also directed the mayor to study charging fares on the historically free downtown Metromover.

Some cuts remain: Route 132 ends in November 2026, and 16 low-ridership routes lose service after 10 p.m. from March 2027. Free and reduced-fare programs for eligible low-income residents, seniors, veterans, students and people with disabilities remain in place. (GSM, from the Miami-Dade DTPW statement)
