Miami's $450 Million Police and Fire Bond Heads to Voters on November 3

Saturday, October 10, 2026 · City · GSM News

Miami is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Miami voters will decide on November 3 whether to approve Mayor Eileen Higgins' Safe and Ready Miami plan: up to $450 million in general obligation bonds to repair and build police and fire facilities, including a new public safety headquarters and additional fire stations. The city says repayment is structured within the current debt millage cap, with no increase to residents' debt millage rate, and the program would be subject to independent annual audits.

The City Commission previously voted to send the referendum to the ballot, alongside a proposed bond oversight committee that would publicly report the status, cost, timeline and remaining funds of bond-funded capital projects. The city's elections page notes early voting opens October 19 and the vote-by-mail request deadline is October 22, so voters can check their registration and voting method in advance.
