PortMiami Rolls Out Traffic Management Plan for 2026-2027 Cruise Season With 81 High-Season Days

Miami is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. PortMiami, the Miami-Dade County seaport, on October 16 rolled out a set of traffic management initiatives ahead of its 2026-2027 cruise season. The high season includes 81 days on which seven to 10 ships will call at the port each day.
Under the plan, passengers bound for Cruise Terminals AA, A, B, C and D are directed to enter through the PortMiami Tunnel, while those heading to Terminals E, F, G, J and V use the PortMiami Bridge. Taxis, rideshare vehicles and passenger motor carriers have designated staging areas, and the port is releasing videos urging passengers to arrive at their scheduled embarkation time. GridMatrix, a winner of the Miami-Dade Innovation Authority's Public Innovation Challenge, will track congestion using SI-powered computer vision so the port can predict bottlenecks. On select busy dates, personnel from PortMiami, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office and the City of Miami Police Department will assist with traffic management on Biscayne Boulevard and in downtown Miami, and cargo roadways will continue to be used to relieve pressure on surrounding highways including I-395.
The plan also expands airport transfers: a pilot program with Carnival Cruise Line will offer complimentary shuttles to Miami International Airport for Carnival Celebration passengers on select dates starting in October 2026, while Royal Caribbean's existing shuttle program for Icon of the Seas passengers continues. PortMiami, welcomed its 10 millionth cruise passenger on September 14, 2026, and contributes about $61 billion a year to the local economy, supporting over 340,000 jobs.
