Fire Prevention Week focuses on safe charging as New Orleans firefighters urge battery caution
New Orleans is a city in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. The City of New Orleans and its fire department announced on Oct. 5 that this year's Fire Prevention Week, running Oct. 4–10, centers on safe charging habits for phones, e-bikes, and other rechargeable devices, urging residents to use approved chargers, charge on hard flat surfaces, and unplug when charging is done.
Firefighters will staff an information table at City Hall during the week, and residents can request free smoke alarms with home installation. Officials also warned residents to stop using any battery that overheats, swells, or gives off unusual smells.
