More Than 10,000 Low-Income NYC Children to Get Free Child Care as Voucher Waitlist Clears

New York City is located in New York State. New York City announced on October 5 that it will move more than 10,000 children off the child care voucher waitlist and into free care, covering children from six weeks to 13 years old, and up to age 19 for children with special needs. The expansion is backed by a $1.2 billion state investment in city child care initiatives, including $475 million dedicated to vouchers.
In the coming weeks, the Administration for Children's Services will begin inviting waitlisted families to apply, with priority for the lowest-income households. The city has also upgraded its child care map at nyc.gov/childcare, letting parents filter licensed programs by whether they accept vouchers for the first time.
