Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · City · GSM News

New York City is a city in New York County, New York. US media reported on October 14 that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Council Speaker Julie Menin have agreed on a bill to ban horse-drawn carriages in Central Park, with a Council vote scheduled for October 22. The bill, known as 'Romanchi's Law', is co-sponsored by 29 of the Council's 51 members and would take effect on June 1, 2028. It follows the death in June of 18-year-old visitor Romanchi Mahajan after a horse bolted in the park. The bill also restricts sending retired horses to slaughter.
