Accessible Entrances Open at 161st Street-Yankee Stadium Station in the Bronx With Five New Elevators

New York City is a city in Bronx County, New York. New York media reported on October 14 that updated accessible entrances have opened at the 161st Street-Yankee Stadium subway station in the Bronx, with new ADA-compliant elevators. The station, next to Yankee Stadium, connects the 4 and B/D lines and serves commuters, residents and sports fans year-round, with volumes peaking during major events.
Builder Halmar Infrastructure Development said the work includes five new elevators, a renovated street-level entrance on 161st Street and ADA-compliant fare gates, carried out in coordination with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority while passenger service continued. The project is part of the MTA's ADA 13 Stations Program to improve accessibility across the subway system.
The station's multi-level layout has long made travel difficult for riders with disabilities, older passengers and families with strollers, and the new entrances add accessible routes through the complex. The project cost was not disclosed in the announcement.
