New York City Completes Citi Bike Expansion: 230-Plus Stations and 3,700 Docks Bring Bike Share to Seven Neighborhoods

New York City is located in New York State. New York — Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani, Department of Transportation Commissioner Mike Flynn and Lyft announced on October 15 that Citi Bike has completed a major expansion, adding more than 230 stations and 3,700 docks across seven neighborhoods in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens that previously lacked access to the bike-share system.
The seven newly served neighborhoods are Bay Ridge, Brownsville, East New York and Kensington in Brooklyn; Norwood and Riverdale in the Bronx; and Forest Hills in Queens. The rollout began in Bay Ridge and concluded in East New York. Since the first stations opened in Bay Ridge last September, riders there alone have taken more than 75,000 trips.
According to NYC DOT, the expansion adds roughly 10 square miles of coverage, bringing Citi Bike's total service area to 86.5 square miles, and 62 percent of New Yorkers now live within the service area. All new stations feature Lyft's Pillar dock, the company's next-generation station design. Citi Bike General Manager Patrick Knoth said that in Norwood, more than half of trips at the new stations are Reduced Fare trips. Mamdani said the expansion would make it easier for residents to get to work, school, medical appointments and cultural venues.
NYC DOT and Lyft said that this fall Lyft will deploy hundreds of additional docks within the existing service area, adding capacity in high-demand neighborhoods including Midtown, Chelsea, Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Gowanus.
