Chinese-American Doctors Hold a Free Clinic in the Research Triangle: 136 Residents Served

On October 17, Chinese-American physicians held a free community clinic in the Research Triangle Park (RTP), which straddles Durham and Wake counties in North Carolina, serving 136 residents. It was the fourth such clinic the Chinese-American medical charity team has held in North Carolina in 2026, following events in Charlotte, at the RTP Asian Festival, and in Greensboro.
Twenty-one medical providers and 27 volunteers took part, completing 142 laboratory tests (60 cholesterol, 22 HbA1c and 60 blood glucose), 37 vaccinations and 2 EKG checks. Physicians from family medicine, internal medicine, oncology, orthopedics, spine, hematology, pain medicine, dentistry, acupuncture and physical therapy offered face-to-face consultations, and flu shots were provided free of charge.
The clinic was co-hosted by the Carolina Chinese Healthcare Providers Association, the OllieTree Foundation, the Alliance of North American Chinese Physicians (ANACP) and its Medicine Connect volunteer program. Zeng Guangbin, a Charlotte physician and founder of the OllieTree Foundation, recalled that the effort began in 2018 with just two Chinese-American doctors and, after eight years, has grown into a multi-city, multi-specialty charity network. Many Chinese residents lack insurance or face language barriers, he said: 'They need a place where they can speak Chinese, with doctors who understand their culture.'
Christopher Liu, the ANACP's 2025 president and an internal medicine and geriatrics physician at Duke Raleigh Hospital, said the team plans to hold two clinics a year in RTP and gradually expand into more cities in South Carolina.
