Rancho Palos Verdes Measure RS: Voters to Decide Nov. 3 on Hotel Tax Rise From 10% to 13%

Wednesday, October 7, 2026 · City · GSM News

Rancho Palos Verdes is a city in Los Angeles County, California. Rancho Palos Verdes will put Measure RS, a public safety and city services measure, to voters in the Nov. 3 municipal election. The measure would adjust the transient occupancy tax — paid only by hotel and motel guests — from 10% to 13%, providing about $2.2 million a year until ended by voters.

The city says the revenue would help prepare for and respond to wildfires and natural disasters, maintain roads and storm drains, prevent sinkholes, address landslides and land movement, and support general city services. All funds would stay in Rancho Palos Verdes and could not be taken by the state or Los Angeles County, with annual audits and public spending disclosures required. The City Council voted unanimously on July 21 to place the measure on the ballot; it needs a simple majority, and voters will also elect three council members.
