Saturday, October 3, 2026 · City · GSM News

San Diego is a city in San Diego County, California. San Diego sweltered through the fiercest day of an early-October heat wave on Saturday, October 3, reaching 105 degrees Fahrenheit — almost 19 degrees above average, a new record for the date and the sixth-highest temperature recorded in the city since records began in 1875. The city's all-time record remains 111 degrees, set on September 26, 1963.

With an extreme heat warning in effect from October 2 through October 8, the City of San Diego extended hours at libraries and recreation centers serving as cooling locations. On October 2 and 3 all listed locations stayed open until 8 p.m., and selected sites also opened on Sunday, October 4, from noon to 8 p.m. The list spans dozens of branch libraries and recreation centers across the city, with service animals allowed inside.

City officials urged residents to avoid overexertion, stay hydrated, never leave people or pets in vehicles, and check on neighbors at higher risk. Elsewhere in San Diego County, Vista reached 108 degrees, tying its hottest day on record, as records fell across Southern California during the first weekend of October.
