San Diego Prepares for Weekend Rain and High Tides, Warns of Localized Flooding

San Diego is a city in San Diego County, California. The City of San Diego said on Oct. 9 that rain arriving Saturday, Oct. 10 and continuing through Oct. 13, combined with high tides in a very strong El Niño pattern, could bring localized flooding to low-lying and coastal neighborhoods such as Midway and Mission Beach over the next several days. Some roads — especially Frontage Road and Pacific Coast Highway in the Midway area — may need to close.
City crews have been cleaning storm drains, inspecting and clearing storm channels, staging temporary pumps and monitoring conditions around the clock. Residents are urged to clear drains near their homes, prepare their property, put together an emergency kit and sign up for alerts — and never drive or walk through flooded streets. More preparedness resources are on the City's El Niño page.
