Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fills Golden Gate Park on Saturday With Free Sets Across Six Stages

Saturday, October 3, 2026 · City · GSM News

San Francisco is a city in San Francisco County, California (a consolidated city-county). Golden Gate Park hosted the busiest day of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass on Saturday, October 3, as the free festival's October 2-4 run brought 71 sets to six stages. Saturday's performances ran from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency advised taxi drivers to expect large crowds and heavy demand for trips to and from the park on all three days.

The festival grounds span Hellman Hollow, Lindley Meadow and Marx Meadow in the western half of the park, with six stages — Banjo, Swan, Towers of Gold, Rooster, Arrow and Horseshoe Hill — also carried on a live webcast. Despite the name, the lineup ranges well beyond bluegrass into country, soul, folk and rock, a breadth that has made the event one of the largest free music festivals in the United States.

Founded and endowed by the late venture capitalist Warren Hellman in 2001, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass remains free and non-commercial, drawing hundreds of thousands of attendees across the weekend. For Bay Area residents it is a fixture of the fall calendar.
