Seattle Council Reviews Mayor's Budget; Memos Say Structural Deficit Persists
Seattle is a city in King County, Washington. The Seattle Times reported that the City Council is holding budget meetings from October 13 to 16 to review Mayor Wilson's proposed budget. Council budget memos say the proposal reduces but does not eliminate the city's structural deficit, with the city projected to remain in the red through 2029. A November ballot measure would double the 0.15 percent transit sales tax to 0.3 percent through 2037. The council has already approved 9.5 percent electricity rate increases for 2027 and 2028.
