Saturday, October 3, 2026 · City · GSM News

St. Louis is an independent city in Missouri. The St. Louis Blues opened their season with a 4-0 shutout of the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Friday night, October 2, in a game reported across the league on October 3. Joel Hofer made 25 saves in the first season-opening start of his NHL career — his ninth career shutout, after ranking second in the league with six shutouts last season.

Mason McTavish scored 1:34 into the first period in his Blues debut, tapping in a loose puck outside the crease after Colton Parayko's initial shot was stopped. McTavish had been acquired from Anaheim on June 26 for two first-round picks in the 2026 NHL Draft. Dalibor Dvorsky made it 2-0 at 13:05 of the second period after a handling error behind the Dallas net, and Jimmy Snuggerud and Pius Suter scored empty-net goals 15 seconds apart late in the third, each finishing with a goal and an assist. Jake Oettinger made 20 saves for Dallas.

Blues coach Jim Montgomery praised Hofer as an ultra-competitive goaltender blossoming into a potential top-10 netminder in the league. Dallas forward Tyler Seguin played his first game since tearing the ACL in his right knee on December 2, 2025.
