Suter, McTavish and Neighbours Each Score Twice as Blues Wallop Senators 7-2

St. Louis is an independent city in Missouri. Pius Suter and Mason McTavish each had two goals and an assist in the St. Louis Blues' 7-2 win over the host Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night, Reuters reported on October 14. Jake Neighbours also scored twice and defenseman Adam Jiricek got his first career goal for the Blues, who won their second straight.
Suter's short-handed goal with 5:32 left in the first period gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead; he went in on a partial breakaway after taking a pass from defenseman Colton Parayko, for the sixth short-handed goal of his career. Neighbours made it 2-0 with 6:40 remaining in the second. Claude Giroux closed the gap to 2-1 with 2:08 left in the middle period, tying Hall of Famer Bobby Hull for 59th all-time with 1,170 career points, but McTavish restored the two-goal margin just 33 seconds later.
Suter's second goal 7:54 into the third period made it 4-1. Neighbours got his second goal with 5:14 left, and McTavish's second tally and Jiricek's goal came in the final five minutes. Pavel Buchnevich had three assists and Joel Hofer made 15 saves for St. Louis. Fabian Zetterlund picked up a power-play goal for Ottawa with 1:27 left, and Samuel Ersson stopped 19 shots.
Blues coach Jim Montgomery called Suter's short-handed goal "really key" and praised both of his team's special-teams units. The Senators were playing the second of back-to-back games and their third in four nights, and saw a three-game winning streak end; they were also without defensemen Nikolas Matinpalo, Jake Sanderson and Artem Zub due to injuries.
