Tampa's 32nd Police Memorial Run Set for Oct. 10 at Lykes Gaslight Park
Tampa is a city in Hillsborough County, Florida. The Tampa Police Department announced Oct. 5 that the 32nd Annual Tampa Police Memorial 5K and 1-Mile Run-Walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 at 8 a.m. in Lykes Gaslight Park, rain or shine. Thirty-two officers will run together, each wearing an armband with the name of one of the department's 32 fallen officers. The morning also features a police aviation flyover, a SWAT rappelling demonstration unfurling an American flag from headquarters, music and refreshments, with a commemorative medal for participants. Online registration ends Oct. 7, and proceeds support the police museum, memorial scholarships and the memorial monument.
Tampa Mayor Jane Castor and Acting Police Chief Brett Owen also invited community members to turn out — to run, walk or cheer — in remembrance of the fallen officers and in support of their families.
