Amazon to Pay $8.25 Million in D.C. Settlement Over Prime Delivery Exclusions

Thursday, October 1, 2026 · States · GSM News

The D.C. Attorney General's office announced on October 1 that Amazon will pay $8.25 million to settle the District's lawsuit: $7.25 million in refunds to affected Prime members plus a $1 million penalty.

The District alleged that since June 2022 Amazon had quietly excluded ZIP codes 20019 and 20020, east of the Anacostia River in Wards 7 and 8, from its own branded fast Prime delivery while still charging full price, affecting about 69,000 members. Amazon ended the practice in April 2026 and must disclose any future exclusions; affected members will be notified about refunds.
