More Than 51,000 Pet Laser Toys Recalled: Button Cell Batteries Easily Accessible to Children, Deadly if Swallowed

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on April 16, 2026, that JC Sales of Los Angeles, California, is recalling about 51,160 "Lil' Buddies" pet laser toys. The toys have an unsecured battery compartment, making their button cell batteries easily accessible to children; if swallowed, the batteries can cause serious injury or death.
The recalled toys, model 24496, are white with small blue paw prints on the casing and include three button cell batteries; the model number is printed above the UPC on the back of the package. According to the CPSC, the toys violate the mandatory standard for consumer products containing button cell or coin batteries because the battery compartment is not secure. The products also were not sold in child-resistant packaging and lack the required hazard warnings.
If button cell or coin batteries are swallowed, they can cause serious internal injuries, including chemical burns, and death. The CPSC says such batteries are especially dangerous to young children and can cause severe harm within a short time after ingestion.
The toys were made in China and sold nationwide from February 2023 through November 2025 at retailers including VR Wholesale in Arizona and Viva Bargain in California, and online through the company's website, for about $1. No injuries had been reported in connection with the toys as of the recall announcement.
The CPSC urges consumers to stop using the recalled toys immediately and contact JC Sales for a full refund. Consumers can call the company toll free at 866-540-3334 and leave a voicemail (processed 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT, Monday through Friday), email [email protected], or visit the JC Sales website and click the "Recall" button for more information. Used button cell batteries should be disposed of or recycled following local hazardous waste procedures, not thrown in household trash.
