Blythe Bans Kratom Sales to People Under 21; Violations Carry Fines Up to $1,000

Blythe is a city in Riverside County, California. A Blythe ordinance banning the sale of kratom products to people under 21 has taken effect. The City Council approved the ban on Aug. 11, mirroring a Riverside County ordinance passed in October 2025, prohibiting the sale and distribution of kratom products to those under 21.
Kratom is a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia whose compounds have opioid-like effects, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved any products containing them. People over 21 with valid identification may still purchase the products; selling to anyone under 21 carries a fine of up to $1,000.
