CPSC Urges Immediate Stop to Hererod Jump Starters: About 12,500 Units Can Explode and Ignite, 16 Fire Reports

Thursday, September 17, 2026 · Life · GSM News

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a product safety warning on September 17 urging consumers to stop using Hererod jump starters/power banks immediately, because their internal lithium-ion batteries can explode and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury and death from fire.

The warning covers models PW40 and EW40, about 12,500 units in total. Both can recharge small electronic devices and jump-start vehicles and come with jumper cables; the PW40 can also inflate tires and has PW40 printed on the front, while the EW40 lacks the inflation feature and shows no model number. CPSC is aware of 16 reports of fire, seven involving property damage.

The products were manufactured in China and sold online in the United States through Amazon, CarKart.com and eBay from August 2024 through August 2026. The manufacturer, Qianjiang Simiaole Network Technology Co., Ltd., has been unresponsive to CPSC requests for a recall or product information, so the warning carries no refund or replacement program.

CPSC urges consumers to dispose of the units immediately under local hazardous waste procedures: defective lithium-ion batteries must not go in household trash, curbside recycling or retail battery drop boxes, and a municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) center should be contacted ahead of time. Incidents can be reported to CPSC at SaferProducts.gov.
