Solana Beach Moves to Ban All Plastic Foodware; Restaurants Must Switch to Compostable Products
Solana Beach is a city in San Diego County, California. The Solana Beach City Council voted unanimously on September 30 to approve the first reading of an ordinance tightening rules on single-use plastic foodware. Under the draft, local restaurants would be barred from using any plastic food service ware, including recyclable plastic, and would instead have to use reusable or compostable products, with compostable materials required to be compatible with the facility that processes the city's organic waste. The ordinance still requires a second reading before it takes effect.
