New Connecticut Employment Laws Take Effect October 1

[HARTFORD] Several new employment laws took effect in Connecticut on October 1, covering wage transparency, promissory notes in hiring, pay-range disclosure and other workplace requirements. The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) reminded employers to update their hiring policies to stay compliant.
The most closely watched change is the expanded wage-transparency law. CBIA notes the rule requiring employers to disclose wage ranges or salary standards in job postings now covers a broader set of positions, aimed at narrowing gender and racial pay gaps.
Another significant change concerns promissory notes in employment. The new law bars employers from asking job applicants to sign notes secured against future wages during hiring — seen as a protection for lower-income job seekers.
The package also refines pay-stub details and overtime calculation rules. CBIA said it will host webinars to help business owners understand the new requirements, and the state Department of Labor is expected to release official compliance guidance soon.
