Taiwanese Comedian Huang Hao-ping Brings Stand-Up Tour to the Bay Area
Taiwanese stand-up comedian Huang Hao-ping brought his North American tour "Just a Comedian" to the San Francisco Bay Area, performing in Redwood City, the World Journal reported on October 1. The show was hosted by the Taiwanese Junior Chamber of Commerce of the San Francisco Bay Area as its first event of the term.
Huang drew material from shared Taiwanese growing-up memories, cultural experiences and relationships, with frequent improvised interaction with the audience, and closed by performing the tour's theme song. Wei-tsan Wang, director of the local Overseas Community Affairs education center, spoke at the event, and Bay Area-raised singer-songwriter Sam Lin also appeared.
Huang said he had been warned before the tour that Chinese-American audiences might skew older, but found younger crowds in city after city. The organizers said they hope to stage more community events for Chinese residents of the Bay Area. (GSM, based on the World Journal)
