Walmart Recalls About 4.48 Million Metal Wire Grill Brushes; CPSC Warns Bristles Can Stick to Food

Thursday, October 1, 2026 · Life · GSM News

WASHINGTON, Oct. 1 — Walmart is recalling about 4,477,655 Expert Grill metal wire bristle grill brushes, according to a recall alert issued Oct. 1 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (recall number 27-010). The CPSC said small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes and stick to the grill or to cooked food, posing an ingestion hazard that could require surgery if swallowed. As of the announcement, no incidents or injuries had been reported.

The recall covers five models — EX5607031616002, EX5607031616003, XG1310700206, XG1136178597003 and XG1410700124 — including long-handle brushes with scrapers, a 21-inch three-head brush and a 10-piece grilling tool set, with black plastic or stainless-steel handles. They were sold at Walmart stores and on its website from January 2021 through August 2026 for between $1 and $28.

The CPSC urges customers to stop using the brushes and contact Walmart for a full refund or credit, returning them to a store or discarding them as directed. USA Today, in an Oct. 2 follow-up, advised readers to double-check their grilling tools even though barbecue season has ended.

On alternatives, the CPSC has noted in repeated recall guidance that wire-bristle brushes can be replaced with nylon brushes, coiled stainless brushes with no loose bristles, or grill stones. Whatever the tool, the grate surface should be checked for residue before food goes on. For households with young children and elderly members, aging kitchen tools in this 'low probability, high harm' category belong on the seasonal clean-out checklist.
