Break-In Forces DeTour Area Schools to Cancel Classes

[LANSING] DeTour Area Schools in Michigan's Upper Peninsula canceled classes for the day on October 1 after a break-in damaged school buildings, the Lansing State Journal reported, citing Michigan State Police. Staff discovered signs of forced entry early that morning, with doors, windows and interior facilities damaged in multiple places.
State troopers secured the scene to collect evidence and are reviewing campus surveillance footage. The district said that to protect student safety and accommodate the police investigation, classes and after-school activities were canceled for October 1.
The district superintendent said maintenance crews are assessing the damage and working toward reopening as soon as possible. No suspects were in custody, and police asked anyone with information to come forward.
