Missouri Imposes New SNAP Verification Requirements

[JEFFERSON CITY] New eligibility-verification requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) took effect in Missouri on October 1, the state Department of Social Services (DSS) announced via KRPS. The rules tighten verification of applicants' income, assets and household composition.
DSS said the new checks aim to ensure benefits reach truly eligible families and to reduce improper payments and fraud. Some applicants will need to submit additional documentation at renewal, and processing times may lengthen.
Anti-hunger advocates worry stricter procedures could cause eligible low-income families to lose benefits over paperwork gaps, urging the state to expand outreach assistance. DSS responded that it has added hotline capacity and community assistance sites.
