Record Rain Floods Lincoln and Omaha Overnight

Thursday, October 1, 2026 · States · GSM News

[OMAHA] Record-breaking rainfall battered eastern Nebraska overnight from September 30 into October 1, causing severe flash flooding in Lincoln and Omaha, weather.com reported. Some areas set all-time rainfall records for the date within just a few hours.

Omaha firefighters worked through the night rescuing drivers stranded in high water, and police closed multiple flooded roadways. In Lincoln, underpasses and low-lying neighborhoods saw serious water accumulation as city crews pumped water overnight.

The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for Douglas and Lancaster counties, urging residents never to drive through flooded roads. Meteorologists attributed the deluge to a stalled low-pressure system, with rain expected to ease during the day on October 1.
