LA Phil Opens 2026/27 Season With Gala Starring Yuja Wang and Teddy Abrams

The Los Angeles Philharmonic opened its 2026/27 season on Oct. 1 with its annual Gala at Walt Disney Concert Hall (111 S. Grand Ave.) in downtown Los Angeles, according to BroadwayWorld and The Hollywood Times. Conductor and composer Teddy Abrams led the orchestra, joined by pianist Yuja Wang and principal clarinetist Boris Allakhverdyan.
The program celebrated Los Angeles and American music: Goldsmith's 'Fireworks: A Celebration of Los Angeles,' Tsfasman's Jazz Suite, Herrmann's 'Scène d'Amour' from 'Vertigo,' Bernstein's 'Prelude, Fugue and Riffs,' Tilson Thomas' 'Lope,' and two movements from Barber's Piano Concerto. Proceeds from the evening support the LA Phil's community and learning programs, which reach more than 150,000 children and families across Southern California each year.
Wang's Los Angeles stand continued Oct. 2-4, when she performed Barber's complete Piano Concerto with conductor Kwamé Ryan, on a program with John Adams' 'Short Ride in a Fast Machine' and Copland's Symphony No. 3.
The Gala is the LA Phil's social calling card: its red carpet draws the city's cultural, business and civic figures, and the dinner-and-concert format traditionally supplies a major share of the orchestra's annual fundraising. President and CEO Kim Noltemy, unveiling the season in March, said 2026/27 would be built on American music and community connection — a brief this evening embodied.
