Calabasas Council Denies Appeal, Upholds Approval of 135-Unit Avalon Expansion

Calabasas is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The Calabasas City Council voted 2-1 on September 30 to deny an appeal and uphold the Planning Commission's approval of a 135-unit expansion at Avalon Calabasas. Public comment at the hearing, which ran more than two hours, focused on wildfire evacuation, creek impacts and tenant complaints. The council found the project to be within the scope of the city's 2021 programmatic environmental impact report. The vote clears a local approval hurdle for the project, which must still meet building and environmental conditions.
