Connecticut Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff for Fallen DOT Worker Elvin Hernandez

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont ordered flags statewide lowered to half-staff on October 2 in memory of Department of Transportation worker Elvin Hernandez, who died in the line of duty, the Norwich Bulletin reported.
Hernandez was killed in an accident while performing road maintenance. Lamont offered condolences to his family and colleagues, praising his dedication to keeping Connecticut's roads safe. The order covers all state buildings through the day of his funeral.
The DOT said Hernandez was a veteran employee beloved by colleagues. His death plunged the department into mourning, and coworkers organized memorials honoring his years of service.
The state also reminded drivers to slow down in work zones to protect road crews. Connecticut has stiffened penalties for speeding and reckless driving in work zones in recent years, and the DOT runs annual work-zone safety campaigns urging drivers to slow down, move over, and save lives.
