Denver Joins Lawsuit Challenging Federal Rollback of Fuel Economy Standards

Denver is a city in Denver County, Colorado (a consolidated city-county). The City and County of Denver announced on October 2 that it has joined a coalition of states, counties and cities in suing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over its final rule weakening corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards for new passenger cars and light trucks.
In its press release, the city argued that fuel economy standards have lowered consumer costs by making vehicles more efficient while cutting tailpipe pollution, and that rolling them back would raise fuel bills for residents and worsen air quality.
It was Denver's second environmental lawsuit against the federal government in as many days: on October 1 the city joined Colorado and more than two dozen other states and local governments in challenging the repeal of greenhouse gas limits for power plants. The cases will proceed in federal court.
