Man Charged With Murder in Detroit After-Hours Club Mass Shooting

Detroit is a city in Wayne County, Michigan. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced at an October 2 news conference that Christopher Rafael Gouch, 25, of Detroit has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, four counts of assault with intent to murder and seven felony firearm counts in the September 27 mass shooting at an illegal after-hours club on the city's west side.
Prosecutors say a fight between two women over a missing cell phone spilled from inside the unlicensed club on Prest Street to the street outside, where Gouch joined the melee and opened fire, killing three people and wounding four. Investigators recovered 16 shell casings at the scene.
Gouch pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in 36th District Court. His attorney argued he acted in self-defense while protecting someone being attacked and asked for bond, but the magistrate ordered him held without bond. A probable cause conference is set for October 9.
